What is a Sugar Glider?

For Spencer's 2nd grade final project he picked the Australian Sugar Glider. What is a Sugar Glider? You can learn and see them in action here and here . They are not YET legal in California, so Spencer is already to move to Connecticut with Uncle Ben where they are legal. Of-course this project became a family project and we learned so much. I too would love to have one as a pet. For FHE Monday night Dan and Spencer created a realistic model of the critter. Spencer and Dad are so proud! They worked very hard! Spencer wrote a short report and also a very cute poem. All will be displayed at open house later this week. The Final Product!

I love sugar gliders...but not as much as one of the mom's from my classroom last year! She would "wear" the animal everywhere safly tucked in her shirt. Can you believe that? The first time I saw her shirt "wiggling" I freaked out!

Wow! that's amazing! I've never even heard of one, but they're so cute! How did they ever make it so realistic??

My husband is an Architect! He builds models out of all sorts of stuff for a living. He amazes me. I called him at work on Monday and told him about the project. He came home with 2 packages of paint brushes, black and tan and then clay. I was so confused. I had no idea what he was going to do. He explained it to Spencer and they got to work. Spencer was so excited. I wish I had a picture of his excitement. So, the body is clay, formed of-course. And the "hair" is bristles from paintbrushes. How he thought that up is amazing to me. I put in my 2 cents too. I came up with the ears, which is simply tan felt. OOOO!! Anyways, Dan had fun. He kept saying, "I wish we had more time...I would have done this and that." I just laugh and remind him it is a 2nd grade project.

Watch out! The school is going to ask Dan to be the art teacher! I'm impressed. My friend had a sugar glider in Utah--those thins are seriously crazy!
