Pioneer Day Celebration!

Remember those annual pioneer day events when you were a child? I know in Utah, it is HUGE still. But, the day is not celebrated like it should be, here in CA. Back when I was a kid I remember we would celebrate pioneer Day. It was a pretty BIG deal. My mom would even have us dress up as pioneers. So, what happen? Well, our stake (church) is trying to get the celebration happening again. This is the second year in their attempt. Saturday, was the big day and I think I was more excited than the kids. I love socializing and I love the old time games. It was definitely my type of activity. We all met at a park in Oak Park. They had yummy food for us. We ate lots of hot dogs, chips, watermelon, chili and pie. Mr. Chuck Cooley organized the fun and games and even had a HUGE trophy that he told us one of the wards would win. They put together lots of different events such as, pie and chili cook-off, the 3 legged race, the potato bag race, and lots of water games. They had a firetruck that the kids could check out. Melanie climbed all inside, pretending to be fire women. This park in the city of Oak Park has lots of these just laying around in the dirt. So, yes we have a nice collection. Spencer and his buddy Eddie spent the entire time finding treasure. Melanie is a lot like me (more social then Spencer) and participated in the games. She was soaked by the end of the day! Here are just a few pictures! By the way our ward didn't win the trophy, but we should have...apparently! It was funny to watch Mike Eshenberg get little upset and competitive because we didn't win the BIG trophy! Maybe next year Mike!

It was good to see you on Saturday, Lisa. Hey! I noticed by your play list that you are a fan of the Plain White T's. Did you know they are playing at the Ventura County Fair?

I'm so glad that activity was a hit! Hopefully we'll be able to attend next year.
